WHITBY

With a maritime, mineral and tourist heritage, Whitby is a vibrant seaside town in North Yorkshire. Whitby is home to the fishing port where Captain Cook's vessel, The Endeavour, was built. The town is rich in history, including the ruins of Whitby Abbey, a former monastery which was dissolved in 1539 by King Henry VIII. You can climb the famous 199 steps up to St. Mary's Church, popularised in the novel Dracula, or visit the mysterious shipwreck of Admiral Von Tromp.

Just south of Whitby, you can visit Robin Hood's Bay, which was known for the smuggling of contraband such as tea, rum and brandy back in the 18th century. Nowadays, it is a picturesque village on the coastline, perfect for a seaside holiday with the family.
